Terms of Service

Last updated: August 1, 2026

1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Homeschool Owl (the "Service"), operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Not Legal Advice

Homeschool Owl provides general information about state homeschool requirements to help you stay organized. This information is provided for convenience only, is not legal advice, and may not reflect the most current or complete requirements for your state or district. You are responsible for independently verifying requirements with your state's Department of Education or a qualified attorney before relying on them. We disclaim all liability for compliance decisions made based on information in the Service.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating an account and are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

4. Free Trial

New accounts include a 14-day free trial with full access to paid features. No payment method is required to start a trial. If you do not subscribe before the trial ends, your account is downgraded and paid features become unavailable; your data is retained and access resumes if you subscribe later.

5. Subscriptions & Billing

Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis through our payment processor, Stripe, and automatically renew each billing period until canceled. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis. Prices are shown at checkout and may change with notice; changes apply to future billing periods.

Except as required by law, payments are non-refundable, including for partial billing periods.

6. Pause & Cancellation

You may pause a subscription (billing stops for a limited period while your data is retained) or cancel at any time from your Account page. Canceling revokes access to paid features immediately; your data is preserved unless you separately request deletion.

7. Your Data

You retain ownership of the information you submit about your family and children (names, logs, generated documents, etc.). We use it only to provide the Service. You may delete your account at any time from the Account page, which permanently removes your account and associated children, logs, and documents.

8. Evaluator Share Links

The Service lets you generate a link to share a single document with a third party (such as a portfolio evaluator) without requiring them to create an account. You are responsible for whom you share these links with; anyone with the link can view the associated document.

9. Acceptable Use

You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to access other users' accounts or data, interfering with the Service's operation, or using the Service for any unlawful purpose.

10. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any compliance determination made in reliance on the Service, arising from your use of the Service.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of [STATE], without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
